Getting schooled in cool-climate Chardonnays

By Ben Sigurdson for Winnipeg Free Press

Winnipeg Free Press wine writer Ben Sigurdson came to Niagara for i4C and got the full education – School of Cool seminars, vineyard and winery visits, Friday Night Flights, Chardonnay in the Vineyard and, naturally, a great deal of Chardonnay.

His takeaway? The fresher, racier, more vibrant expressions coming from cool climate regions – particularly Niagara – make a pretty convincing argument that some old Chardonnay stereotypes are long overdue for retirement.

There’s also a nice Manitoba thread running through the story, including a visit with ex-Winnipeggers Ilya and Nadia Senchuk of Leaning Post Wines and some helpful notes on where Winnipeg readers can find i4C producers closer to home.
